"Radio Ready" is a partnership between the Office of Emergency Services, the Orfalea Foundation and California Concern that works with local radio stations using satellite communications!
During an emergency you need information. The Office of Emergency Services works with local radio stations and other media in an attempt to get that information to you. When you are in your car, or when emergencies result in power loss, the Office of Emergency Services works with local radio stations to help keep you informed.
Many residents have learned the hard way that they need a battery powered or hand-crank portable radio in their home and at their office to keep informed. When the power goes out, when telephones or cellular phones aren't working, listening to the radio can help get you information.
The Office of Emergency Services has partnered with many local radio stations to help get information out. Some of these stations have emergency generators that keep them on the air. In partnership with the Orfalea Foundation and California Concern, a local civil group working to improve our community, the Office of Emergency Services has deployed broadband satellite stations to those stations with generator power that are more likely to stay on the air during long-term power outages.
