The Santa Barbara County Office of Emergency Management has begun working in collaboration with the Federal Emergency Management Agency to bolster its Emergency Operations Center (EOC) capabilities, staff competency, and national consistency using grant funded technical assistance experts familiar with emergency operations centers nationwide.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, a suspect wearing a mask walked into the Far Western Liquor Store located in the 3400 block of Orcutt Road in Santa Maria. The suspect confronted the owner of the store, pointed a black semi-automatic pistol at him and demanded cash. After the owner gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect walked the owner to the back door of the store and took off on foot into the alley.

The suspect in this case has been identified as San Diego resident, Weldon Patterson Fewell (DOB: 10-27-61). Mr. Fewell has been arrested for assault with a deadly weapon (vehicle) on a peace officer, Penal Code 245(c). He is in custody and in stable condition at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
