The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is holding a back to school "Coffee with a Cop" event next Wednesday, October 8, from 10:00 a.m. till noon at the Starbucks located at 888 Embarcadero del Norte. Isla Vista students and residents are encouraged to come meet the Sheriff's Deputies and University of California Police Officers who make up the Isla Vista Foot Patrol.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office arrested four members of a suspected counterfeit crew who allegedly victimized at least six businesses in the Solvang and Santa Maria areas. Those arrested include 40-year-old Tanya Lee Rose of Bakersfield, 42-year-old Melissa Jones of Bakersfield, 48-year-old Doreen Rowland of Bakersfield and 40-year-old Thomas Berchtold of San Luis Obispo who is formerly from Bakersfield.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed through laboratory testing that the first case of Ebola Viral Disease has been diagnosed in the United States. In response to this case in Dallas and the developments in Africa over the last several months, the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department (SBC PHD) has been following the Ebola situation very closely and is in regular communication with and receiving updates from the CDC and California Department of Public Health.
A suspect is in custody at the Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of raping a 19-year old University of California Santa Barbara student on October 1, 2014 at a fraternity house in Isla Vista. 23-year-old Victor Farias, of Salinas, was arrested later that day following an investigation by Sheriff's deputies with the Isla Vista Foot Patrol (IVFP).
Santa Barbara County District Attorney Joyce E. Dudley announced today that Jose Antonio Aviles, age 35, was sentenced to 24 years, 8 months in state prison and ordered to pay restitution to the victims in the amount of $804,925. This sentence was the result of a plea relating to a take-over style robbery of a Milpas Street jewelry store.
Santa Barbara County District Attorney Joyce E. Dudley announced today that James Levice Davis Junious, age 33, of Lompoc, California, was arrested on September 29, 2014. He was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail and charged with 4 felony counts of Workers Compensation Fraud and 1 felony county of Grand Theft.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is requesting public assistance to help locate the suspect responsible for at least three burglaries in downtown Solvang, two of which occurred at the same business.
