If you have an animal related emergency outside of normal business hours you will need to contact law enforcement dispatch or call 9-1-1.

Santa Barbara County Animal Services does not respond to after hour animal related calls between the hours of MIDNIGHT to 7:59 AM.

The following calls listed below, Animal Control Officers will respond to:

  • Bats loose inside of a business or residence
  • Reported bites where the animal is loose and the owner is unknown. 
  • Seriously injured wildlife and animals

The following calls listed below, Animal Control Officers will NOT respond to:

  • Animals on freeways
  • Aggressive dogs at large
  • Animals and wildlife with minor injuries (safely confine until the following day)

For the following types of calls please advise the caller to contact SBCAS during normal business hours and/or call the appropriate agency:

  • Rattlesnakes inside of a business or residence
  • Rabies vector species (excluding bats) loose in a business or residence (ensure exterior door is open, block further entry into the building and wait for the animal to leave)
  • Young/nursing wildlife (Contact Wildlife Care Network)
  • Loose livestock (daytime response only)
  • Loose cattle (Contact Brand Inspector)
  • Dead Animals (can be reported here unless they are on a highway, then you report to Caltrans)
  • Nuisance animals under houses or in attics
  • Barking Animals (report online here)
  • Not in progress dog bites (report online here)
  • Confined stray animals (hold overnight and leave message on Animal Control phone line)
  • Animal abuse/neglect complaints ( submit online complaint here)
  • Animal owners with concerns regarding their own pets
